Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricket player, has opined that India will defeat Australia in the forthcoming five-match Test series (Border-Gavaskar-Trophy). Though the series has two months left, retired cricket players have begun to make predictions. India’s chances have been strengthened by its victories in the last two tournaments held in Australia.

Since the 2014–15 tournament, Australia has not defeated India, as the Indians are superior both at home and away. Gavaskar projected that India would win 3-1.

Given the skill on both sides, the series promises to be thrilling and will further demonstrate why Test match cricket is the best format for our favorite sport. Oh, and I think India will win 3-1,” Gavaskar said in his Sunday Midday column.

“India’s five Test matches (at home) prior to their tour of Australia will be beneficial for the mental preparation needed for such a demanding trip. Australian athletes, both past and present, have already started to speculate on the outcome of the mind games.

Even while they (Australia) aren’t predicting a resounding victory a la Glenn McGrath, they are nevertheless expressing confidence in their victory. Unfortunately, except from Ravi Shastri, no other player, past or present, has shown to be able to counter the mental strategies that the Australians excel at.”

“If he can continue to open the batting and survive Jasprit Bumrah, maybe Ravichandran Ashwin should start telling us about a special delivery that he is developing for Steve Smith,” the man stated.

The first game of India’s five-match Test series versus Australia will take place in Perth on November 22. The second Test match is scheduled to take place in Adelaide and will be played day and night. India prevailed 2-1 in the series’ final meeting, which was held in India in 2023. The outcome of the series will also have a significant impact on who advances to the Lord’s ICC World Test Championship final the following year.
